Lemon Blueberry Bread

May 4th

Girl Scouts is having a yard sale this weekend, with proceeds going to the Humane Society. The girls are all very excited about it, which is the only reason I am participating in it. Because we all know that yard sales suck.

However, I found a way this morning to make the yard sale more fun. I was watching an episode of Sweet Home Oklahoma on Bravo. Is anyone else watching this? It follows three ladies and their families. They are not as crazy as the Real Housewives, as they are actually friends, but they are still entertaining.

In the last episode one of the ladies was having a yard sale (again – not housewives. Can you imagine Lisa Vanderpump having a yard sale?). The lady had been told that the yard sales that do the best are the ones that have weird stuff at them. So she was selling some old mens underwear and a half empty bottle of laxatives. She called it her “experimental” table.

So I obviously challenged a couple of the Girl Scout moms to a competition to come up with the weirdest item to sell. Who’s ever item sells for the most wins. Now I need to find the winning item. At one previous yard sale I sold an old bra that accidentally got put with the sell clothes instead of the donate clothes. And at another yard sale someone asked to buy the stained sheet we were using to put items that were actually for sale on. So, obviously, the bar has been set very low.

There are only two small problems with picking the best of the worst. Problem one is that I can’t take anything of Averi’s to sell, as she will be there. Which is a shame because she has a half used horrible 70s palette make up set she got as a gift that I think would be awesome.

Seriously, wouldn’t you give me at least a dollar for this?

The second problem is that our area is very small town. So I can’t be too weird, or else school drop off could become very uncomfortable. Although, I could always say it belongs to whichever troop family is not there at the moment. 🙂

So far my possibilities for the experimental table are: a tube of chapstick, an old toilet brush cleaner, half filled box of qtips, and some socks. I feel like I could do better, though. I am open to suggestions. And donations of weird items. 🙂

I am hoping that the people watching, meeting of neighbors and judging people who buy from our experimental table will be enough to keep my happy at the yard sale. But if it isn’t enough, I plan on having good snacks. Starting with this delicious lemon blueberry bread.

This is a seriously easy recipe. Just combining of some basic ingredients, and then bake. And the tang of the lemon combined with the blueberry provides such great flavor that you don’t even need to bother with a glaze, which is just extra work and mess.

If I don’t win with the experimental table, maybe I can win by selling pieces of lemon blueberry bread. That would be a random thing for someone to buy, right? Or offering as gift with purchase to get someone to buy my crap. 🙂
