Afternoon Tea at Raffles Makati

I’ve always been very confused with Tea. All I knew then was that tea was a drink but then I was educated and informed that it was also a meal but depending on the time of the day and what is being served, it can be High Tea or Afternoon Tea. Sort of like a meryenda for Pinoys.

Afternoon Tea has always had this very posh reputation – like something from Downton Abbey or a Jane Austen book. Although its roots do come from England, it really isn’t far off from our own meryenda. Remember back in the day when our lolas would serve us kakanin and salabat? That’s the Pinoy version of Afternoon Tea.

The Raffles Makati is now offering Afternoon Tea with a Pinoy twist. Their full Afternoon Tea set is at P995++ and is good for 2. With that, you get unlimited cups of tea or coffee, a first course of finger sandwiches, a second course of scones, jam and fresh butter and a last course of cakes, pastries and tarts served in the three tiered tray.

The service and the quality of the food is absolutely amazing. Raffles Makati did not cut corners when it came to the two things that mattered. The Writer’s room is so elegantly furnished but it still gave you the feeling of being comfortable and relaxed. A pianist was playing songs softly – which in my opinion, beats piped in music any day. The cost for the full Afternoon Tea menu is about the same price if you were to go to Starbucks – wouldn’t it be better to have your client meetings here instead of a noisy coffee house?

The Writer’s Room is located at the Raffles Hotel, 1 Raffles Drive, Makati Avenue, Makati. Call them at +632 555 9777 for more info or visit their website.
