Top 10 Pinoy Christmas songs

We’re pretty sure that you’re quite tired of hearing Christmas songs play on the radio. It’s not that you’re a grinch but maybe because we Filipinos start Christmas early (like September early). However, Christmas isn’t complete without hearing these songs. Here’s a list of the top 10 Pinoy Christmas songs, in no particular order.

1. Kumukutikutitap – Ryan Cayabyab, also known as Mr. C in the industry, wrote this song for the very festive A-Capella album, One Christmas. The upbeat tune and its very cute lyrics make this song an easy Pinoy favorite

2. Pasko na Naman – A definite Christmas Classic for pinoys, this song was actually composed by Felipe de Leon and written by Levi Celerio. A favorite among carolers because of its beat and easy lyrics.

3. Ang Pasko ay sumapit – Did you know that this isn’t the real title of this song? The real title is actually “Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon”. Filipinos have been singing it since 1933 when Vicente D. Rubi and Mariano Vestil composed it.

4. Himig ng Pasko – The Apo Hiking Society came out with this mellow holiday song back in 1991, as part of their PaskonAPO album. Another favorite from this album is their up-beat “Tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang Pasko”

5. Christmas in our hearts – A modern classic written by a classic – Jose Mari Chan. Although in English, this song captures the values and Christmas spirit that is distinctively Filipino.

6. Pasko na, Sinta ko – As Pinoys would say, this is the perfect “senti” Christmas song. Leave it to the Pinoys to have a emotional Christmas song that also doubles as the theme song to the members of SMP (Samahang Malalamig ang Pasko).

7. Christmas Bonus – A favorite amongst the workers, this Aegis song is often sung in jest.

8. Noche Buena – A very traditional Pinoy Christmas song, it talks about something that all Filipinos love about Christmas – food! Noche Buena is about all the different feasts that each family would have for Christmas Eve dinner.

9. Namamasko – This song is more popularly known as “Sa Maybahay, ang aming bati”. I find it utterly hilarious that our song titles are usually the first line of the song. I think this is the most popular of all Pinoy Christmas songs or carols.

10. Payapang Daigdig – I always think of this song as very tragic yet beautiful. It was written by Felipe Padilla De Leon during the Second World war, just right the morning after he saw the bombs that leveled Manila.

There you have it! If you think we’ve missed some songs, let us know and we’ll post it right away.

Maligayang Pasko sa ating lahat!
