The 250 peso challenge
I was walking out of the office to go get a cup of coffee when I thought about how my doctor said I should be living a “healthier” lifestyle. So, I thought about doing something different for the same price I’d get my coffee and smokes. What can I do in an hour with only 250 pesos? A challenge, I’d say.
Now, it’s literally a hole in the wall. Though Friss Point has a sit down air-conditioned area at the corner of Alfaro and Rufino, it was a bit off my budget. They do have this “take-away” part where you can also eat ala Jollijeep style. I asked for their special lugaw with egg and their ever famous Star Bread. Not bad for a meal that costs less than 50 pesos and was very filling. But yeah, I know, lugaw isn’t exactly the ideal meal when it’s freaking hot but it does the job. The star bread isn’t too bad as well.
With 200 pesos left in my pocket and a satisfying meal in my belly, I walked some more to find what else I can make out of the funds. I stopped in front of TonTon Massage. For 195 pesos, I got a 30 minute foot massage that was heavenly. It’s not just a woman with strong hands rubbing and poking at your feet and legs. They first give you a heated pad to put around your neck to loosen your neck muscles. Then they soak your feet in warm water in a foot spa tub and then massage your feet and legs. They also do a short rub down of your arms, back and neck. All in all, I felt good knowing that I had done something relatively healthy in a short period of time with a limited budget. Why don’t you try to have your own challenge?
