It has been a hectic 2 weeks for me. I was shuttling back and forth places that if it were a flight, I would have earned miles that can qualify me for a new trip. I needed to unwind and to do that, the first step is usually a meal – a good one. Now, we all know that an expensive meal does not immediately equate to a good one. So, off to Barcino’s we went.

I’ve heard a lot of good things from Barcino’s. Most of the comments though, are about their vast collection of wines. David wanted some tapas for our late lunch so we took a gander on to Greenbelt 3 to have some at Barcino’s.

Barcino’s has that beautiful cozy ambiance to it. There were wines from the floor to the ceiling, as if they were flaunting themselves and their flavors and origins. It’s very overwhelmingly poetic, to be honest. Well, wine has always been very poetic for me. The attendant led us tot he quiet private nook that had doors, so it kinda felt like we had our own reservation and privacy. It’s a small nook though, good enough for 4 but it might be a tight fit even with that, especially if you order a lot of food.

The ambiance already too our breath away and the service was unassuming but warm. So far, they’ve been impressing us. But then came the food – glorious tapas! Here’s a little thing you have to know about tapas. In the Philippines, when we say tapa, we immediately think of dried pieces of beef or pork meat. Tapas, in Spanish cuisine, is actually a variety of appetizers that you share with friends over drinks (preferably, wine). Tapas may be cold cuts or cheeses or they may be small hot cooked dishes. We chose the spicy chorizo, deep fried stuffed jalapenos and the potato bombs. Since I was quite hungry, I ordered the maya-maya on top of all of that.

The presentation was just beautiful and the food was even more amazing. I initially had reservations about the jalapenos but they were really sweet and spicy. The potato bombs were definitely an experience – stuffed with spicy meat, it’s basically mashed potatoes that were breaded and deep fried. It was simply delicious! Everything was done in a very artistic and creative manner that it was almost a shame to eat it.

When everything was eaten and the dishes were put away, we sat inside that room, surrounded by wine bottles and thought about how good this meal was.  It’s not surprising why the Spaniards are the way they are – happy, laid back and life-loving.

Barcino’s is located at the ground floor of Greenbelt 2. Call them for reservations at 756.0965 or email them at barcino@barcino.com.ph. Visit their website here.

Definitely agree with exactly what you wrote. Your explanation was undoubtedly the simplest to understand. I tell you, I usually get irritable when individuals discuss issues that these people obviously do not know about. You managed to strike the nail on the head and explained every thing with out complication. Perhaps, others can learn from this. Will more than likely be back to learn more. Cheers

Thank you so much, this was a good read. I was actually born in Madrid (I’m not telling when though!) but moved around various parts of europe and lastly settled in the UK when I was 5. I dont remember much of the few years I was in spain, but the delicious smell of spanish food always seems to ring a bell in me or something. It’s weird how I dont remember anything except the smells, isn’t it! I even found a internet site dedicated to spanish recipes, which gave me great delight and thought I really should to share with your readers. Anyway, thank you again. I’ll get my husband to add your cast to my rss app…
