Mrs. Baker’s Restaurant and Pastry Shop
Strategically positioned in the middle of the town, Mrs. Baker’s cafe and restaurant is a pleasant discovery for anyone visiting Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
The exterior of the establishment is very clean and crisp, colorful and very laid back. It could be easily mistaken for a cafe in Metro Manila, so seeing it in a sleepy town like Bayombong, it naturally and easily stands out.
Mrs. Baker’s, as the name suggests, is proud of their in house and hand made pastries and cakes. Each one looking very delectable and it does melt in your mouth, giving you a wonderful sweet experience. I personally tried the carrot cupcake and the black forest cupcake and they were delightfully divine. It was moist and perfectly mixed with bits of fruit and walnuts. It was the perfect breakfast companion to the freshly brewed coffee they had served.
Their indoor dining area seats about 35 – 40 guests but if you prefer to go al fresco, they also have a couple of tables outside in their patio. With the cool weather in Bayombong, this is actually a great experience albeit the noise of the trikes that zoom past.

Unfortunately, you can’t find any local dishes here. Most of their dishes are Italian, American and intercontinental. When I asked the Assistant Manager, she told me that they wanted to serve these types of dishes so that they can give the local residents the experience of sampling dishes and meals that can only be found in Manila restaurants. We tried their chicken steak with rosemary gravy and the deep fried chicken with chips.
I loved the chicken steak. It was well cooked, tender and juicy enough without having the gravy compensating for moisture. The rosemary they used was fresh and you can immediately taste and smell it from the dish. The gravy was obviously home made and was just delicious. We also got a side of mashed potatoes that were again, obviously made from real potatoes, mixed with butter, cream and a hint of chives. Very decadent! The friend chicken was also cooked well. It had the skin cooked to a golden crisp but was still soft and juicy inside. The only thing I’d have to comment negatively on is the fries or chips that they’ve used – they used processed commercial fries. It would’ve been better if they used real potatoes too.
The prices were also very affordable! My chicken steak only cost 130 pesos! Not bad for a meal that uses fresh ingredients and was very well cooked. This is definitely a place to go to for a wonderful meal when you’re in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
