Ka Lui’s – Puerto Princesa, Palawan
Palawan is probably the last unspoilt area in the Philippines and I do not contest that at all. Palawan is so mysterious and enchanting – with its beautiful forests, sea life and people. However, a trip to Palawan is not complete without having dinner at probably the best restaurant in Puerto Princesa – Ka Lui’s.
Ka Lui’s is actually the brainchild of a non-Palawenyo. A migrant (just like how I wanted to be when I was there.) to Palawan, Ka Lui’s owner decided to come up with an authentic Filipino dining experience that was true to the ambiance of Palawan.
Be warned though that the restaurant is so popular and well recommended that you have to book at least a month in advance for your chance to feast on the scrumptious meals they offer. Walk-ins are not advised as you will get turned down and will be asked to make a reservation. Even reservations can take some time, so if a trip to Palawan is forthcoming, make sure to book it accordingly.
The entire restaurant is such a refreshing experience, from the rock gardens which also act as a waiting area, to the interiors that exude an authentic Filipino bohemian look and feel. Ka Lui’s is a feast of the senses! My favorite part of the restaurant is the faux aquarium which in my opinion was pure kitchy genius! You are also asked to please leave your footwear at the door. No worries, you are given pretty baskets to store your precious Mighty Kid shoes in.
The food, well, let’s just say it can’t get any fresher if it were served to us breathing and flapping around. You can still taste the sea and almost feel like you’re right there at the beach where they caught the food. See, in my opinion, seafood shouldn’t be drenched with flavorings or seasonings. Other restaurants drown their food in so much flavorings because it’s been shipped and not quite fresh. But then, that’s just my opinion.
An art gallery and a small curio shop is located at the back (excellently positioned near the bathrooms, if I do say so myself) and the smoking area is there too. I kind of felt guilty smoking there because the place was just so beautiful and filled with plants and pretty insects. All in all, KaLui’s is definitely a must see/go/eat place in Palawan.
KaLui’s is located at 369 Rizal Avenue, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Visit their website here or call them at (048)
