Gayuma ni Maria – Quezon City

Gayuma in tagalog means “aphrodisiac” and you’ll absolutely fall in love with everything there is in this little comfy cafe/resto in V. Luna street called Gayuma ni Maria.

Gayuma ni Maria has  always been a favorite of the students of the schools around the area and the residents there as well. A well known “date” place, Gayuma ni Maria offers not only meals but other items as well, to induce that feeling of love.

A small corner of the shop proudly displays “love” items – massage oils, glow in the dark love dice, interestingly shaped cookies and more. A small sign hangs on the shelf, stating that these items are there for sale and are for the purpose of enhancing the mood and not to humiliate or to shame anyone. It’s like a caveat for those who are a bit conservative – as most Pinoys are. It’s all done for good fun and all for the name of love though, so you can’t really pick fault.

The menu reads like a Mills and Boon’s romance book, with names for their dishes such as ‘Once you go black, you never go back” (which is actually a cocoa crusted cream dory with chocolate sauce. Not something you find on a menu everyday), HHWWPSSP (Holding hands while walking, pa swing swing pa), Secret Lovers and Through the Fire. If you’re up for it, why don’t you come over on Wednesdays and ask if you can do the “69″. It’s actually a special secret dish (or the day’s special) from the chef. Just tell the wait staff that you’d like a “69″ please.

The ambiance is very soft and romantic. You’d be surprised though at how many families come and dine in the place. If you’re done dining, you can check out the space next door and take a look at the clothes they have for sale.

Gayuma ni Maria is located at 123 V. Luna Extension (Maginhawa st.) Sikatuna Village, Quezon City, Philippines.
