Bistro Rosario – Davao City

The last time I was in Davao City was in 1991. Right about the same time as Bistro Rosario was set up. Completely run by one of the prominent families in Davao, Bistro Rosario is known for its amazing cakes and pastries as well as their steaks.

Ms Lynne of CTG Davao took us to have lunch there and I have to thank her for that wonderful experience! Bistro Rosario is conveniently located along F Torres Street, just along the myriad of hotels and accommodations in Davao. As you step in the premises, you’re immediately given this feeling of it being a totally posh restaurant. But fear not, it’s really more homey than it is posh.

The main restaurant also houses the bakery whose specialty cakes are all the rage for Dabawenos. Ms Lynne told us that it’s best to order these cakes at least a couple of days before because the demand is high and it’s not like your typical commercialized bakeries where they make the cakes by machines. Each cake here is baked fresh and hand decorated.

The bistro also houses the other food establishments that are owned by other family members. Right next to the main restaurant is an al fresco area which is the pizzeria. At the far end, they have a coffee shop that serves awesome brewed coffee wit delectable pastries.

Bistro Rosario’s specialties are its steaks. You can opt to have a premium steak (Australian and American beef) or local steaks that use beef from cows raised and cared for in Davao. In all honesty, there’s no difference in terms of taste.  The local meat used was just as soft and yummy as the premium steaks I’ve tasted in Manila. Another plus is that they really do know how to cook their steaks. Medium rare should be seared with a nice warm pink center and not like those other restaurants that just sear it or worse, cook it to medium or medium well. Another plus? The servings are huge!
