Vice Ink Tattoo Company

I had my very first tattoo when I was in high school. It wasn’t very well done but it meant a lot to me because my best friend and I got it together (granted, the guy tattooing us was a little weird) It was the eye of Ra – the Egyptian Sun God. And it was the first of several tattoos I was going to get, the latest being my children’s names in Alibata. (Which I’m very proud to say, I got from High Voltage in Los Angeles, aka L.A. Ink)

The Philippines and Filipinos have a long and rich history with tattoos. Our ancestors had them and wore them proudly as they were literally badges and symbols of bravery and social status. We have long developed and adapted to better tools (because the whole tapping with bamboo sticks and metal blades isn’t really fun anymore) and because Filipinos are very artistic and proficient artists, the world is starting to get interested in getting inked here in our country.

One of the best tattoo places, in our opinion is Vice Ink Tattoo Company in Makati. They were previously located in Legaspi Village but have now moved to (IMHO, more appropriate) The Collective in Malugay street. What makes Vice Ink very unique is that it’s not just a tattoo salon/shop, it’s also a wonderful and quaint coffee shop!

Although most tattoo shops would serve beer and other alcoholic drinks, we at discoverPH.com find that image to be quite a generalization and a stereotype. Breaking the mold, Vice Ink doesn’t just offer exceptional tattoos but also a nice rich cup of hot joe. That is actually business genius. You almost always go get a tattoo with a friend in tow. At Vice Ink, you can get an iced mocha frappe with a slice of blueberry pie while your friend is getting her boyfriend’s name covered with a picture of a dragon along her right side. Oh, and they have free WiFi too!

Although primarily a tattoo parlor/coffee shop (or is that coffee shop/tattoo parlor?) Vice Ink also provides upcoming artists a chance to showcase their work. Their walls are decorated by different media from young talented artists trying to get their names out there.

They also have their version of the popular tattoo reality series in the US like Miami and LA Ink, aptly named Vice Ink. Here’s their trailer:
