Budget Kiddie Adventure

The wonderful thing about having kids is that you’re almost always on an adventure. Be it your backyard or the empty lot next door, or even your own kitchen, kids will always find something to do and enjoy.

The trouble with having kids is that when you want to take them on an adventure, it’s a little pricey – most especially if you have a large brood like I do. But, fret no more as there are places within the metro that you can take them on without having to break into their college fund.

KINDER ZOO – Inside the Manila zoo is the Kinder zoo – a place where you can roam freely and interact with the animals. Granted, there’s another entrance fee on top of the one you pay for to enter the Manila zoo but it’s well worth it.

The animal keepers actually encourage your kids to interact with the animals – touching them, seeing them up close and personal and even, riding them. My kids took turns in riding the giant tortoise. (Although we’ve been told it’s not yet a giant as it is so much of a baby) They also have displays of animals made from Lego, as Lego is a one of the sponsors of Kinder zoo.

I suggest you visit sometime late afternoon to see the animals more active and it wouldn’t be too hot. Bring lots of water and juice (as you’ll be doing some walking inside and outside Kinder zoo). Don’t forget the baby wipes and hand sanitizers for those little hands.

Kinder zoo is located inside the Manila Zoo, Quirino Ave., Adriatico St., Malate, Manila – at the corner of Mabini Street and Harrison Street) Open from 7AM to 6PM Daily. Entrance fee for Manila zoo is at 40 pesos and entrance for Kinder zoo is 40 pesos as wll. You can call them at (632) 400.1884 (Manila Zoo) / (632) 522.6179 (Kinder Zoo for any inquiries. From what I know, you can actually have your kid’s birthday party here.
MUSEO PAMBATA – Science and discovery is never boring at Museo Pambata.

My kids personally love the Human Body exhibit – where they can go inside a mouth and travel inside a stomach and exit…err…let’s just say you exit the body.

On weekends, they have guests that teach your kids either arts and crafts or basic cooking. They also have theme rooms that show the kids how to care for the environment and be proud of their Filipino roots.

Museo Pambata is located at Roxas Blvd corner South Drive near Quirino Grandstand. Museum is open from Tuesdays to Sundays (except for holidays) from 9AM to 5PM. They do take their lunch at noon until 1PM so the museum is closed then. On Sundays, they open from 1PM to 5PM. Entrance fee is at 100 pesos.
